Guys chill out, tensions still reigning high or such. First off, Burrhead asked a relatively innocent question on how was he corrupt and just said Oakes will be in for as long as he wants. Give reasons why he was corrupt, and he may be right on Oakes, just due to that there may be some people who work for Oakes who aren't great but nearly everybody likes him. Lots of things blowing up way to quickly, past things as we've heard everybody say need to be in the past, on both and all ends.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.
True Rocketer. But a lawsuit pending now and previous actions say a lot. I honestly had nothing against Mr. Basham, other than he was not a people person. And push to quickly with bad ideas.
Basically Mr. Oakes, i think he is a fine man. Have talked to him several times. I just stated a few facts myself.
As far as corruption it may not be the word. It may be lack of wisdom and insight.
We have a need for money in this County. Yet the cuts have to start some where.
Yet no one wants to hear that.
We will be opening a regional jail system in a month i think, if it's still on schedule. And how many will officers will we lose? And im not saying anything that has not been already ask.
How much and how big does our local government need to be and how many does it take to operate it efficiently.
We want this and that. Yet how do we afford it? We cannot keep paying the bills with less and less people either. Just like this here. We don't need to pay for 6 schools, yet, we can afford to pay for a larger than needed county government, and how many to make it run?
This is questions many are asking. When and where do you stop and where do you get the money. We can't afford to do what we need to. So when does reality really hit home?
And burrhead if i did you wrong i apologize. I never meant to. But i had no intentions of hurting anyone. Just stating my opinion to. But yes corruption may not be the word to use it may be as i said lack of wisdom or insight. But we in this county are gonna have to have change.
Sounds like you are really sweating the school board letting Bashan go. I can see the real troublemakers are the ones that CONSTANTLY gnaw at an issue that is of no real concern to them. The state won't step in, in leaves them responsible for too much. The courts are the next step, and if you are lookin' for more info- forget it. Got any idea when Dickenson will get there money? Why should the rest of the Country have to pay cause Dickenson built in a flood zone? Sounds a lot like the arguements for consolidation, doesn't? I wish the people that don't have kids or aren't Wise County residents would stick to things they have some knowledge of. It looks as if the moderators are always gonna stand against anyone close to home ever getting anything right. I'm glad someone here has the time to watch me ,so I don't screw up too badly. And the County is paying for the "dual enrollment" classes. They did mention that as they did the month's bills. So I guess it is available to all, and one more thing that SOLs can't test is what kind of person the kids see everyday in the schools. I like Appy's style. Maybe if, we do consolidate, BY CHOICE, in the future, we can see that gets a chance to grow instead of crushing it. I'll see ya gang- this has been fun, but I'm tired of listening to the crap. paying for the sheriff's department is something the board of supervisors have to deal with. i for one am glad we have a man of ronnie oakes caliber and integrity running our sheriff's department.
Well first off, a lawsuit pending just means that someone decided to pursue a lawsuit. With people being lawsuit happy anymore, nearly every person around will have one or two against them, doesn't make a person corrupt. From what I was told, if that lawsuit against him would have went forward, it would have been thrown out so quickly, that it would have made a persons head spin, it may not have but it was by far from making a person corrupt. You know someone from Pound could go file a lawsuit today saying that the school board and system and the people from wherever are all guilty of discrimination because they are preventing some students from having a fair and equal education. That wouldn't make someone corrupt there either but we could say they were.
When the regional jail opens, a lot of the current sheriffs office will be gone, all budgeting was done for that. There will be a lot still, because you have road deputies who do not work in the jail, jail staff who are not on the roads, dispatchers, etc etc etc. There are numbers on the recommended part, the sheriffs office actually is a hugely bloated system but also are very very good and skilled at getting grants for a great number of their items.
And you'll have a hard time hitting the sheriffs office much due to a larger police force affects home insurance rates, so then you start hitting people in another spot. If we start complaining about 31 teaching positions going away, and thats people losing jobs, do you really start on saying need to do away with jobs involving people who protect and serve? I mean nobody will deny there are some bad ones, and some who see a badge as a power trip, but when you say a staff of 100, that includes dispatchers, office staff, jailers, matrons, road deputiies, investigators, etc. You will lost the jail staff and such, and the total numbers employed will probably drop in half, but you're still gonna have power mongers

Spuds, I have no idea what you said for the most part but I'll say this.
It was said that they pay for them to take college classes, the college isn't gonna allow their resources to be used for nothing, common sense. That's fine but it takes time for students, who have cars, to travel to the schools. There is no teleportation. The time it takes to drive from one location to the college and then back is time that they are being deprived of another class, either they are leaving one class early or coming back into one late or something. Plus you're dealing with people who have cars, not everybody can afford to give their kids a car and those who don't have a car can not go, no bus. There are some solutions but not good solutions, that is what is said.

just to clear it up...i dont know mr oakes and have no idea whether he is corrupt or not...but i do know some of the people under him...most good, some bad apples...but everyone was fairly nice when my dad was there
